The barman of the Arola restaurant, Diego Baud, has been awarded the title of Spain’s best bartender of bourbon distillates in the Essence Century Cocktails Competition. Baud has been chosen as the winner in one of the two categories of this renowned national cocktail-making competition for his proposal based on the Wild Turkey distillate. Organized by the Campari brand, the contest is aimed at Spain’s bartenders, who, in order to take part, had to prepare two cocktails based on two of its most charismatic brands: Appleton Estate and Wild Turkey bourbon.
Arola’s barman, Diego Baud, had secured himself a place in the final of the contest after several months of competition in which he made his cocktails and shared his creations through social media networks. In the end, Baud’s concoction was chosen as the winner in the final of the competition – held on December 2, 2015 – by an exceptional jury: Giuseppe Santamaria, a mixologist with more than 20 years of experience, recognized as Spain’s best bartender of 2012 in the World Class Competition; the journalist and writer David Moralejo, editor in chief of the magazine Tapas; and Agostino Perrone, the director of the Connaught Bar, in London, which in 2012 was awarded the title of the world’s best cocktail bar by Tales of the Cocktail.
The concoction that secured the prize for the Arola barman was the Pumpkin Patch cocktail, based on the Wild Turkey brand of whiskey, which convinced the jury due to its passion and flavour and the United States authenticity it achieves to reflect. The Pumpkin Patch is also on Arola’s extensive wine and cocktail menu and is one of the star creations with which its bartender Diego Baud delights guests as part of the culinary experience offered by the restaurant.
